Rutherford Cancer Centres | North East update

The second Rutherford Cancer Centre, located in Bomasund, Northumberland is due to open later this Spring. Following on from the South Wales HQ and working in collaboration with JDDK and Interserve, Picto have developed signage and wayfinding for owners Pronton Partners International.

The client brief was for signage to set the tone for the patient experience while differentiating the treatment centres from any other healthcare provider.

On 6th February, the 55 ton proton beam therapy machine weighing the same as a plane was lowered into position.  The commissioning process takes around a year with proton beam therapy scheduled to be available Spring 2019.

I actually followed the proton beam machine as it arrived at the site, an unforgettable experience.  It took me back to the morning of 20th November 2000 when the Millennium Bridge, Newcastle was towed down the River Tyne as I drove to work along side (frustratingly the days before camera phones).
