Typography on the Tyne

As a designer, my eye is constantly drawn towards signs, graphics, typography.. and more signs! Having a coffee at the Tyneside Cafe Bar, I noticed this eloquent mural on the facing wall. Carefully scripted by Visual Artist Graham Dolphin, the six metre long artwork features 30,000 ‘bar dialogue’ phrases gathered from 100 films.  I love the definition and intricacy of the typography.

I found out that in a world which seems to be dominated by large format print, this has been drawn by hand. I can only imagine the hours of patience and back aches put into it. Very impressive.

To discover more about this typographic piece, I recommend watching the artist at work himself on; https://www.tynesidecinema.co.uk/whats-on/art/events-exhibitions/dialogue
