Work in Progress | Darlington Hippodrome

In 2016 Darlington Civic Theatre closed to mark the start of a £12.3 million renovation project that included a £4.5 million lottery grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The full refurbishment of the Grade II listed Edwardian theatre, now renamed the ‘Darlington Hippodrome’, included the creation of gallery spaces, cafés and bars, and connection to a new flagship children’s theatre venue, The Hullabaloo.

Our challenge was to ensure that visitors could find their way around each of the newly redeveloped and connected spaces with ease.

Working in collaboration with the design teams from Space Architects and Williams Design Associates (WDA) we aligned the brand guidelines to the wayfinding scheme to create a strong sense of both identity and place.
